Europe is preparing for fundamental changes in the payments ecosystem, with Wero set to play a central role.

Major players including Bancomat, Bizum, SIBS MB WAY, and Vipps MobilePay have already partnered with the European Payments Initiative (EPI) to build a unified pan-European payment hub. The goal is seamless interoperability between these systems while preserving their individual brands and user experiences.

Bancomat, EPI, and SIBS MB WAY have successfully tested cross-border QR-code payments between Italian and Portuguese users in real retail environments. Customers were able to pay merchants across countries using Wero.

These developments are moving faster than initially planned, suggesting that C2B (consumer-to-business) payments could launch well before the previously expected 2027 timeline.
