Fernando Estévez Vázquez Joins 8B as Go-to-Market Lead for Scan-t- Pay

Fernando Estévez Vázquez joins 8B with more than two decades of experience across payments, ecommerce, fintech, and international expansion throughout Europe, LATAM, and the US. But beyond the impressive track record, what immediately stood out to us was his energy, curiosity, and genuine passion for improving how people move money globally.

Originally from Galicia, Fernando is widely known in the payments industry as both a fintech strategist and a strong advocate for cross-border innovation. Throughout his career, he has worked with companies including PayPal, BoaCompra/UOL, Flow, Bexs Banco, and Latam Digital Bridge, helping businesses navigate the complexities of international payments and local payment ecosystems.

Over the years, Fernando has built a reputation for making complex payment infrastructure understandable and practical, especially when it comes to alternative payment methods, real-time payments, and the evolution of local payment rails across emerging markets. His work has consistently focused on one core mission: making global commerce feel local.

In recent months, Fernando intentionally stepped back from the constant pace of the industry to focus on family, personal projects, cycling, and reflection after more than 20 years in payments. During that time, he also finalized a payments training course in Spanish, renovated his website, and reconnected with industry peers across Europe and Latin America.

That reflection ultimately led him to 8B.

“What attracted me to 8B was the combination of innovation, speed, compliance, and the practical use of technology to improve cross-border payments in a very real way,” Fernando shared.

At 8B, Fernando will lead the growth of our Scan-to-Pay initiatives, helping merchants, PSPs, and financial institutions deliver seamless QR and instant payment experiences across borders. His focus will include expanding partnerships and helping businesses enable customers to pay using their preferred local payment methods regardless of geography. 8B’s infrastructure supports access to local payment methods, QR payments, RTPs, bank transfers, and alternative payment solutions in hard-to-reach markets globally.

Outside of payments, Fernando is also known as an AI enthusiast, educator, occasional writer, and passionate cyclist, bringing the same curiosity and openness to life that he brings to fintech.
