UPI

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is India’s real-time payment infrastructure developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It enables instant account-to-account payments between participating banks using mobile devices, QR codes and virtual payment addresses. In May 2026 alone, UPI processed more than 23.2 billion transactions through 720 live banks, confirming its position as the world’s largest real-time payment system by transaction volume.
