Reasons for Popularity

RuPay credit cards can be linked to UPI apps, allowing customers to pay by scanning familiar UPI QR codes. This gives RuPay access to more than 50 million merchant acceptance points across India, including many small businesses without traditional card terminals.

Created by the National Payments Corporation of India, RuPay is widely issued by Indian public- and private-sector banks. It supports debit, credit, prepaid and contactless products designed for the local payments ecosystem.

50M+ merchant acceptance points are accessible through the UPI ecosystem.

8% was RuPay’s corresponding share by transaction value, reflecting its strong use for everyday, lower-ticket payments.
